Monday marks the official opening of
Sugar Beach,
Waterfront Toronto's latest development.
South of Queens Quay and east of Jarvis, Sugar Beach is Waterfront's first and the waterfront's second beach, 8,500 square metres (or two acres) of public space designed by
Claude Cormier Architects, Paysagistes, and
The Planning Partnership. It has 225 metres of waterfront, with 57 trees, 150 chairs and 36 umbrellas.
The beach takes its name from its proximity to the iconic
Redpath sugar refinery.
Ground was broken on the project in October of last year, and it's been open to the public since Canada Day.
The opening ceremonies will be held from 10:30-11:30am.
